January 2015
So the New Year has arrived and we all have great hopes for a new year, new beginnings and resolutions. Sadly after a chaotic festive period, daylight seems still to be at a premium, the year didn't start quite as hoped and a few weeks in its still not kick started that feel good feeling you had hoped for.
I have found it best to ride out January or get to at least the 25th before deciding on what course of action if any I would like to take for the coming year.
Wanting to get fit, loose weight are often top of a lot of peoples lists at this time of year and when we do not get up and at it in the first week of January heads start to drop and disappointment takes hold making it not such a great start to the year ahead.
So why not start some time after the 25th January allow this time to flow over you and get back into usual daily routines
START and then don't look back. You need to give your body a minimum of 3 months to start changing shape from exercise and diet. DO NOT deprive yourself of food just take smaller portions and try to cut down on chocolate, cake and crisps perhaps one of each in a week. Yes it takes at least 3 months to see results so give yourself the time to get to where you are looking and feeling good.

Power walking - having just returned from a holiday in Ireland I was surprised to see how many ladies (sorry gentlemen) were out there power walking. Many with young babies and children in their buggies and walking in pairs having a great time and catching up.
What is power walking? well it is walking at a brisk pace, wider stride than walking and using your arms in a pumping action to raise your heartbeat. It is a great cardiovascular exercise to do and all levels of fitness can take part which is the best part. And its open to men, women and children.
The benefits of exercise are:
Weight management
Its FREE
Health benefits
Great for Stress
Its FREE
So pop on some comfortable clothing and some walking or training shoes and get out there. You will increase your fitness, make your bones upper and lower stronger and you will feel great being out seeing where you live and de-stressing at the same time.
How many of us pop to the shops, work, school run, friends house in the car rather than walk (yes my hands up too) We automatically jump in the car when really it would take very little time to walk to some of the places we drive too.
So for fun, healthy, FREE exercise get out and walk
For those that have not exercised or have medical problems which may limit you then please always seek medical advise on any kind of exercise before taking part.

Tennis Elbow - Are you suffering from or know anyone that is? Symptoms can be tenderness, pain when gripping or when carrying out your particular sport. They are known for taking along time to heal and may never go away.
Acupuncture works well on Tennis Elbow helping with inflammation as well as encouraging the body to heal itself in response to the needles being inserted.

Do you suffer with sciatic pain? It really is that pain in the gleusus maximus (bottom) that we could all do without. More and more people are suffering from it and here at Pithers Yard Clinic we have certainly seen an increase in the past 18 months.
We believe this could be do to lifestyle driving desks and cars for long hours at a time, and sitting for too long in one position.
The longer you suffer the pain can then start to creep from you buttock down to your knee and then even as far as the toes which is the last thing you would want. Sciatica is caused by the sciatic nerve becoming compressed and pain occurs.
It often travels down one side of the body but you can have both at one time.
