What  is Counselling & Psychotherapy?

 
Therapy is about empowering ourselves with understanding so we can better comprehend our own feelings, reactions, and behaviours. This enables us to change or adapt those that may have been causing us difficulties. When sharing our most intimate experiences, concerns and thoughts with a non -judgmental professional can really help us gain further understanding of why we are as we are, and react as we do.

I do not sit with you only from an academic viewpoint. I, too, have lived through many of life’s challenges and entirely understand these can be varied and vast from my professional and personal experiences. I do not judge. I cannot emphasise that enough as each one’s frame of reference is different and the relationship built between client and counsellor is one of trust.

I am an Integrative therapist which means I draw upon a variety of approaches depending on which will effectively help you. 
These include:
. Person-centred Therapy, 
. Transactional Analysis, 
. Solution Focused Therapy, 
. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT); 
.  Existential and Psychodynamic practices.
 
I specialise in working with difficulties such as: eating disorders, anxiety, panic, depression, trauma, mid-life changes, addictions, low self-esteem, feeling sad, being stuck in adaptive patterns e.g., people pleasing and avoidance, procrastination, angry outbursts, frustration and codependency.
I have helped clients to feel more confident in themselves by identifying the hurdles that are holding them back.

The Initial Appointment
The initial appointment will take fifty minutes. This time will allow you to ask questions, to discuss any concerns, to talk about your background and to find out if we are a suitable match for your needs.

Counselling sessions
Should you decide to begin counselling, would arrange fifty-minutes sessions to take place once a week, at the same time, day and place – whether online or in person. Sessions can be arranged on a short or long term basis. Online sessions via zoom can be very convenient to those who are not able to get to in person sessions for various reasons.
